Interests: Applied mathematics, nonlinear partial differential equations

The focus of my thesis research at Caltech was on using variational approaches to address various theoretical and computational issues in nonsmooth classical and continuum mechanics.

More recently, I started to work in the general area of nonlinear partial differential equations, with particular interests in multiscale modeling, analysis and simulation of fluid equations. I did some work on Lagrangian-averaged fluid models, particle methods for oscillatory solutions of semilinear hyperbolic systems, Leray-type shock regularizations of the Burgers and compressible Euler equations. Very recently I took an interest in wave propagation phenomena in the atmosphere.
