Născut(ă) în 1979

Interese: Structural Biology and Biophysics, Electrophysiology, Theoretical Physics

Detalii:
-1998-2002 BSc in Medical Physics (Research student 2000-2002), "Al.I Cuza Univeristy", Iasi, Romania
-2002-2004 Master of Philosophy, Ph.M. (the field of study being Chemistry - advanced research degree), Austarlian National University, Research School of Chemistry, Structural Biology and Biophysics, Canberra, Australia
-2005 - high school teacher of physics, Borca, Romania
-2016-2019 Theoretical Physics studies - with no degree. After the detection of gravitational waves I studied General Relativity, Quantum Mechanics and how these two theories can be put together to get a theory of Quantum Gravity. To get to Quantum Gravity I had to study Quantum Field Theory, QFT (Dirac's work on special relativity and quantum mechanics, the prediction of antimatter, the quantization of clasical fields and Quantum Electrodinamics, QED). Quantum Field Theory does not apply to gravitational fields as the math gets very complicated and unsolvable. Other theories were proposed (string theory and quantum loop gravity). String theory predicts the graviton, it is very elegant from a mathematical point of view and theoretically speaking it seems to be a theory of everything (TOE). Quantum loop gravity as far as I know was tested and the theory proved to be wrong. There are many others theories on Quantum Gravity and thus thought experiment approaches are suggested as a testing tool for these theories
Note: Understanding the universality of the principle of least action in Physics may be useful in the learning process of students. I have found on the web a review on the universality of the principle of least action (philosophical approach) showing that principle of least action is the key to whole Physics

Research background
-Electrophysiology (intra and extracellular recordings). I designed a new experiment to show the stochastic resonance phenomenon in voltage-dependent ion channels and published the results in Electromagnetic Biology and Medicine Journal. A theoretical model was developed supporting our experimental results
-Electrical properties of lipid bilayer
-Computational biology - Hodking-Huxley model for modeling action potentials in neurons
-Protein NMR Spectroscopy (backbone assignment, backbone flexibility studies, protein-protein interaction, secondary structure analysis from NOESY-HSQC spectrum) - Structural information of interest for structural biology
-Circular Dichroism (searching for secondary structure of C-peptide)
-Product operator formalism-quantum mechanical description of NMR experiments
-Theoretical knowledge of protein expression and purification
-Basics of C programming (I wrote a C program to assist the chemical shift prediction for random coil peptides, using the parameters reported by Wang et al. The program requires the amino acid sequence of the peptide as an input file, and provides the predicted chemical shifts in an output file. The output is written as a list of chemical shifts in Sparky file format and can be loaded directly onto the spectrum, making the assignment process easier and quicker)
-Attendee of two international workshops and a few international and national conferences (posters and talk)
-Basic electronics - my interest in science dates back to my years spent in high school when I became fond of physics and electronics leading me to construct electronic circuits just for the sake of fun

Theoretical background
-NMR Spectroscopy theory
-Biochemistry (The molecular design of life)
-Quantum chemistry
-Quantum mechanics
-General Relativity
-Quantum Field Theory (quantization of clasical fields, QED)
-Quantum gravity (String theory, etc)
