Rezumat: Dental alloys are used for direct fillings, inlays, onlays, crown and bridges and because of these, their normal biting function and aesthetics can prevail. The aesthetic aspect, as the corrosion and mechanical properties are directly influenced by the agressivity of the corrosion media, which in this case is saliva. This type of bio-fluid is very complex because the oral cavity is an open cavity and the chemical composition and pH change more or less continuously, function of a lot of factors. On the other hand there is a big variability in the oral environmental conditions from person to person, from location to location and in time.
In the literature are described some chemical composition of artificial saliva [1,2].
We adopted the Ringer's solutions, which does not contain bioactive component like proteins, glyco-proteins, enzyme and microorganisms.
The main objective of this work is to study the effect of pH, chloride and phosphate ions concentration on the anodic behavior of cobalt base dental alloy and to propose a mechanism of it's passivation and de-passivation as a strong agreement for the aesthetic of these dental alloys.
