Balaj Ovidiu-Petru. The Chemistry of Solvated Ions studied by FT-ICR Mass Spectrometry. 2005.

Rezumat: he gas phase chemistry of hydrated electron and hydrated aluminum cluster reactions was studied using Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometry (FT-ICR MS). The hydrated electrons were reacted with a variety of organic and inorganic molecules including carbon dioxide and oxygen, relevant for atmospheric chemistry. The behavior and reaction mechanisms study has lead to their classification into four types of chemical reactions: collisional activation, ligand exchange, core exchange and rearrangement of covalent bonds. Previously not known reaction product in liquid phase reactions have been easily identified due to the very high resolution of FT-ICR MS. The results of hydrated aluminum cations experiments provide support for a proton transfer reaction mechanisms. A modified temperature controlled analysis cell is in development and it can reach temperatures as low as 135 K.
